Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority was established in 1908 at Howard University in Washington DC. Started by African American women, this sorority has high moral and ethical standards for its members. With Ivy leaf as its symbol, this sorority stresses a lot on social service and has worked for education, health and family programs. Salmon and apple green are colors of this sorority. Alpha Kappa Alpha is present in countries like Germany, Bahamas, Jamaica, Bermuda, Canada, Liberia and South Korea. Mostly African, Caucasian, Asian, and Hispanic women are its members. This sorority has done a lot for AIDS, sickle cell anemia, and breast cancer.
Founded in 1872 at Syracuse University, New York, Alpha Phi sorority was the forth oldest fraternity for women. “Union hand in hand” is the motto of this sorority. The colors of this sorority are Bordeaux and silver and Lily of the valley and Forget-me-not are its flowers. It is spread through out Canada and USA. Cardiac care and research is the philanthropic arm of Alpha Phi sorority.
Alpha Xi Delta is one of the oldest sororities. It was founded in 1893 at Lombard College, Illinois. Pink rose is its flower and Quill is the symbol of this sorority. The mascot of Alpha Xi delta is BetXi Bear, a teddy bear.
